Project for SIUC CS Department

Client Overview

The Murphysboro Food Pantry is a volunteer governed, directed, and staffed 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Operating from their own mortgage-free building, they are reliant on donations to keep their doors open and their client boxes full of food. Their central location with handicapped, easily accessible service area and a large parking lot only steps from their front door make visits to their facility quick and enjoyable.

They have a well-deserved reputation of providing generously filled boxes of shelf stable food, supplemented with various meats, fresh produce, and bread and dessert items. Their attached warehouse equipped with both walk-in cooler and walk-in freezer allows them to purchase and store fresh and frozen food items when they are on sale and then easily access them for client distribution. Serving more than 37,500 clients in 2014 they are the largest USDA pantry in Jackson County and provide food for clients from every town in the county.

Project Overview

Our senior project was to create a professional website for the Murphysboro Food Pantry to use so that they may have a web presence. The website also needed to be easy to update for even non-technically minded volunteers at the food pantry so they can maintain it themselves.

Importance of Project

Web presence provided by the website gives a few advantages:

  • Increased Likelihood of Murphysboro Food Pantry Receiving Grants
  • Increased Ability to Communicate with Clients about Upcoming Events
  • Increased Exposure to New Clients and Donors

These are just a few of the major benefits that the website created for this project provides the Murphysboro Food Pantry as well as the larger community as a whole.
